Design for a carpet, 9.000 m2 in size, in the city hall of Schouwen-Duiveland (NL).
On the edge of Zierikszee architect agency RAU & partners have designed a town hall for the island. The architects have assured that each office in the building has a wide view on the surrounding area. As the building faces outwards, our carpet for this building is designed to draw attention to the interior space.

The design consists of wavy gradients, laid continuously without taking into account the functional floor plan of the building. Each office has a carpet with a different colour fragment, so that no two rooms are identical. As you walk through the building, it becomes clear that every small room or even a corridor is part of a larger whole. This effect contributes to the feeling of spaciousness.

The town hall of Schouwen-Duiveland is built on a former bastion. Its floor plan resembles a lotus flower. The central hall on the ground floor connects the various petal-shaped office floors. The office spaces are situated along the facades and overlook the surrounding landscape. Inside, these same offices border a triangular central void at the heart of the building. The council chamber occupies an entire petal. The sloping facades are clad in titanium.
